Why it is not selfish to put ourselves first sometimes
Updated: Jul 7, 2019
One of the most common issues that clients can bring is feeling stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted. We can have so many different external drains on our resources and without realises it these can leave us feeling resentful, trapped and anxious.
Self care is vital to our everyday wellbeing. When we start to nurture ourselves we start to bloom and flourish. If you give a plant the best soil, sunshine, watering and temperature it will blossom into the best it can be. Us humans are the same in that if the conditions are right we can grow into the person we want to be.
If you think of yourself as a 'Well' and remember that no well is bottomless. People in our lives such as our children, partner, colleges, family and friends can regularly take from our well and leave us on empty.
The more full our well is the more we have to give others, the nicer we are to be around. It is unselfish to put ourselves first sometimes as the people around us get to benefit from us feeling more happier and less tired.
We can replenish our well by many different means. Every one has different ways of doing this but some of my favourites are :-
Gardening
Cooking
Meeting with a friend
Curling up on the sofa and watching a movie
Going for a walk
Mindfulness
It can help to write down some ideas for your own self care
Remember you are important too
